EUDR deadlines: who complies when

The EU Deforestation Regulation has two dates, not one. Which applies to you depends on your size. Here are the deadlines, the regulation that set them, and why the geolocation file is the part to sort out early.

After phasing, the EUDR application dates were set by Regulation (EU) 2025/2650. There are two, split by operator size, and both are close enough that leaving the geolocation file to the last week is a bad idea.

The two dates

Who you areYou must comply from
Large and medium operators and traders30 December 2026
Micro and small operators and traders30 June 2027

From your date, placing an in-scope commodity on the EU market or exporting it requires a due diligence statement with geolocation for every plot.

Why geolocation is the part to start now

Collecting coordinates from a supplier base takes time, and turning them into a valid GeoJSON that TRACES accepts is where many operators stall. The commodity, the risk assessment, and the paperwork can move quickly. Chasing dozens of smallholders for clean coordinates cannot.

Getting one plot file to pass validation now tells you what your suppliers need to send, long before the deadline crunch.

What to do before your date

  1. Gather plot coordinates from your suppliers, in any format.
  2. Turn them into a GeoJSON that matches the File Description v1.5.
  3. Validate it, fix the errors, and confirm zero blocking issues.
  4. Keep the clean file ready to attach to your due diligence statement in TRACES.

Do not count on further delay

The dates in Regulation (EU) 2025/2650 are what you should plan against. Treat 30 December 2026 or 30 June 2027 as real and get the file right early rather than betting on another postponement.
